The Bodyguards Ethos

Hopefully by now, you've seen the new Bodyguards Wall Mural. It has brightened up the gym no end and reflects our ethos of 'holistic balanced health'. It's intended to be a constant reminder to our clients of how important it is to cultivate energy (work-in) as well as expend it (work-out) if we are to achieve homeostasis.
The Balancing Act

The Yang
The Yin

Try and think of energy as the currency of health, and your body as your 'energy bank account'.
If you don't put some money (energy) into your account (body) now and again you'll get into trouble if you just keep spending !
We all want a healthy (energy) bank balance right ?
Keeping your bank (body) 'out of the red' (in the black) and avoiding debt is like the balancing act that establishes homeostasis.
What exactly is homeostasis ?
Homeostasis is defined as:
the tendency of a system, especially the physiological system of higher animals, to maintain internal stability, owing to the coordinated response of its parts to any situation or stimulus that would tend to disturb its normal condition or function.
Basically that means that if you view the human body as being a biological system of systems, then homeostasis is the balance of every sub-system which brings optimal function to the overall system. Whole health is simply the sum of all its parts.
The 'holistic approach' to health & fitness is therefore the optimal function of every sub-system in an attempt to maintain the delicate equilibrium of the the body, the overall system.
At Bodyguards, we aim to help you do this by balancing your autonomic nervous system, your blood-sugar, your blood pressure, your temperature, the water in your body, your hormones, the type of exercise you do, your diet, the ratio of protein:fat:carbs in your meals, your omega 3:6:9 fats, your gut bacteria, your metabolism, your pH levels, your posture, the length and tension of your muscles (your muscle balance), your lifestyle i.e. work:play and we even aim to help establish a balance between your physical and your spiritual health.
Don't forget, everybody is different ! So in order to establish exactly what changes would benefit you the most and help you find your balance (homeostasis), you must first identify which systems are out of balance.
As Paul Chek always says 'if you're not assessing, you're guessing !'
We can help you identify which areas you need to work on the most - all you need to do is complete our new 'Health Assessment Questionnaire'...
